an initiative by AYUDH Europe

Mission and Goal

Trees for Peace is more than a tree-planting campaign, it combines concrete climate action with education for sustainable lifestyles, while fostering a community of young Europeans, dedicated to making a difference. From Lisbon to Munich to Copenhagen – across ten European countries, our youth volunteers meet to plant together.

Each Trees for Peace activity is carried out by young people (aged 15 – 30) and is combined with workshops on sustainable living. We believe that planting trees is a powerful way to bring people together, experience community, and strengthen a sense of global responsibility and leadership in young people. It can inspire youth from all backgrounds to be active citizens, bringing them together to build a more sustainable and peaceful future.

And because we can achieve more together, AYUDH Europe is joining forces with the Plant for the Planet initiative, contributing to the goal of planting 1 trillion trees globally.

For this, we need your support.

About the Campaign

AYUDH has believed and invested in youth empowerment since its foundation, and our tree planting campaign is no exception. At AYUDH, we believe that supporting youth to plant trees will spark within them the desire to impact positive change and contribute to their local communities.

In this way, Trees for Peace is contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4.7:

“by 2030 ensure all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including among others through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development”

Our campaign mainly focuses on planting native European forest and fruit trees, which are either native to the European continent or naturalised here.

The youth are being guided in choosing species of trees which are native or cultivated in their geographical area, ensuring that the plants planted can survive and flourish in these soil and weather conditions.

Our Inspiration

“Forests play the most important role in maintaining nature's harmony. Each country should try to protect its remaining forests and plant as many trees as possible. Individually, we should each make a vow to plant one tree a month so that in a year, each person would plant 12 trees.”

Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma) - Founder of Embracing the World and AYUDH.

Amma has always advocated for environmental care. Her organisation, Embracing the World, is a member of the United Nations Billion Tree Campaign and has organised the planting of more than a million trees globally since 2001. Now, Embracing the World is preparing for a new pledge of six million trees worldwide.

AYUDH, as part of Embracing the World, is determined to amplify the effort in taking care of the world environment with this new campaign.
